ImPACT Coalition on Artificial Intelligence

The Impact Coalition, Artificial Intelligence (AI & Cyber-Tech Governance), is dedicated to establishing and reinforcing governance mechanisms (political, judicial, and executive) for artificial intelligence and related cyber-technologies. Such mechanisms are essential to ensure that AI development, deployment, and use are aligned with obligations to protect human rights, foster transparency, and guarantee accountability as these transformative technologies reshape our societies. The Coalition engages and mobilises civil society organisations, forward-thinking governments, legislators, domain experts, private-sector actors, and other stakeholders to forge multi-sector alliances and craft governance proposals and initiatives. Among its work, the Coalition (co-led by the Stimson Center and Lawyers Hub and convened under the umbrella of the Coalition for the UN We Need) aims to bring together more than 100 partners, including tech firms, states, and international organisations, to drive global management of AI in a safe, sustainable, inclusive way.

The coalition also builds on cross-cutting initiatives, such as the Global Digital Compact, which outlines a shared architecture for digital governance, including AI, thereby situating its efforts within an emerging field of international normative architecture.
